New Delhi [India], December 12 (ANI): Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who on Thursday visited Boolgarhi village in Hathras and met the family of the 2020 Hathras crime victim claimed that they continued to live under "fear" and as being treated like "criminals"
Gandhi spent around half an hour with the family and interacted with them. However, he not made interact with the media.
After meeting the family, the LoP in a post on X made serious allegations against the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh and said they are going to fight to bring justice to the family.
"The whole family still lives in fear. They are being treated like criminals. They cannot move freely - they are kept under surveillance of guns and cameras at all times. The promises made to them by the BJP government have not been fulfilled till date. Neither have they been given a government job nor has the promise of shifting them to some other place been fulfilled," read the post.
"Instead of giving justice to the victim's family, the government is committing various atrocities on them. On the other hand, the accused are roaming freely. The desperation and despair of this family shows the truth of the atrocities being committed on Dalits by the BJP. But we will not let this family be forced to live in this condition. We will fight with all our might to get them justice," added the post.
In 2020, Rahul Gandhi met the family and also accused the Yogi Adityanath government of "exploitation" and unleashing "atrocities" on the victim's family.
A 19-year-old Dalit woman succumbed to her injuries at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on September 29, 2020, after being assaulted in Hathras on September 14, 2020.
Her mortal remains were taken to her native place, where the UP Police and administration allegedly cremated her body without the family's consent or presence. (ANI)
