Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 11 (ANI): The Nawabganj Police in the Bareilly district have arrested three men in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl, officials said.
Circle Officer (CO) Nilesh Mishra said the main accused was arrested on Friday, while two of his accomplices were arrested on Saturday. All three accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday when the minor girl went to attend a coaching class in Nawabganj town and failed to return.
Speaking to ANI, CO Nilesh Mishra said, "On January 8, 2026, a written complaint was filed at the Nawabganj Police Station in Bareilly district by the complainant, Narayan Singh. The complaint stated that his minor daughter, who was studying in Nawabganj, went to her coaching class on January 7. After the class, she did not return to her room on time."
He further said that at around 9:45 pm on Thursday, the victim's father received a WhatsApp message stating that his daughter had been kidnapped and would "only be released after a ransom of Rs 15 lakh was paid."
The police said a case was registered immediately after receiving the complaint, and an investigation was launched.
"During the investigation, with the help of the police surveillance team, the kidnapper's location was traced to Delhi. Simultaneously, an informant reported that the accused, Arjun, was coming to Bareilly to collect the ransom. Acting swiftly on this information, the police arrested the accused, Arjun, in connection with the crime on January 9," Mishra told ANI.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had "befriended the victim girl through social media six months earlier and had called her to Bareilly before taking her to Delhi," the CO said.
He added that evidence also pointed to the involvement of two other accused, Shani and Deepak.
"Evidence also emerged of the involvement of two other accomplices, Shani and Deepak, in the crime. The crime was committed by all three together. Shani and Deepak were arrested on January 10," Mishra said.
He said all three accused were produced before the court on January 10 and were remanded to judicial custody.
"The investigation is ongoing," Mishra added. Further details are awaited. (ANI)
