Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 5 (ANI): In a major breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested the second accused in the January 1, 2026, snatching case after he was injured in a brief encounter with the police in Mainpuri.
According to the police, the accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime and the stolen earrings. Officials said the accused has around 25 criminal cases registered against him.
Additional Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh told ANI, "On January 1, 2026, a woman and a man were stopped by some individuals, and their earrings and some money were snatched. The police registered an FIR and are actively investigating the case. One accused was arrested and sent to jail. Today, the second accused was spotted, and during a police encounter, he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, after which he was taken to the hospital. The motorcycle used in the incident has also been recovered. The stolen earrings have also been recovered. The accused has approximately 25 cases registered against him."
Earlier in November 2025, an encounter took place near Kasairu Cut in Khurja Nagar, where an exchange of gunfire at a police checkpoint, between officers and four miscreants, left two criminals injured and two others in custody.
According to Khurja Circle Officer (CO) Purnima Singh, the incident unfolded when a police team signalled two suspicious motorcycles, carrying four riders, to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire on the police.
"Today, late at night on November 16, Khurja Nagar police were conducting a checkpoint near Kasairu Cut. During this, 4 people riding 2 bikes were asked to stop by the police team. They opened fire on the police team," CO Singh said.
In the retaliatory action, two of the miscreants were injured. They were identified as Aman from Aligarh and Govind from Kannauj. Both were taken to the Central Medical Commission for treatment. (ANI)
