UP govt's zero-tolerance policy leads to conviction of over 80,000 criminals in 7.5 years

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath on Friday stated that the Prosecution Directorate of the UP Police is making significant strides in combating crime and they have successfully prosecuted over 80,000 criminals, demonstrating the effectiveness of its advocacy across various state courts.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 18 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath on Friday stated that the Prosecution Directorate of the UP Police is making significant strides in combating crime and they have successfully prosecuted over 80,000 criminals, demonstrating the effectiveness of its advocacy across various state courts.
According to the UP government, "Over the past seven and a half years, the Directorate has successfully prosecuted over 80,000 criminals in the state."
In addition, 54 criminals received the death penalty, in cases involving women, 28,700 criminals were punished for serious offences, including sexual assault and crimes under the POCSO Act.
The recent encounter in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked a heated debate between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition.
Earlier, the accused in the Bahraich incident, Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib, were shot in the leg by the Uttar Pradesh Police while allegedly attempting to flee to Nepal.
Of the five arrested in connection with the Bahraich violence, two were injured during an encounter, while the remaining three were taken into custody, according to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, who also stated that the situation is now under control.
Ramgopal Mishra was killed, and several others were injured after clashes between two communities erupted during the Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. (ANI)
