Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 10 (ANI): To equip the Uttar Pradesh Police with the latest technological devices, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the upgradation of CUG (Closed User Group) numbers' SIM cards used by the state police from 3G to 4G in a meeting of the home department.
As per the instructions given during the meeting held Tuesday, preparations are underway to give 4G Closed User Group SIMs to police officers and employees, instead of 3G SIMs. DGP Headquarters has reached out to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
"The 4G SIM cards will enable police personnel to connect at high speed and also provide them more data as compared to the past and improve their connectivity, which will help them in controlling crimes," a state government press release said.
Uttar Pradesh police officers and employees have been using 3G SIM cards for the past several years. However, technical issues have started to arise with 3G SIMS.
"With the provision of 4G CUG SIMs to the police force, the government aims at resolving network issues at many places. It is noteworthy that due to changes in mobile technology, 5G will too be in use soon," the press release added.
As per TRAI guidelines, mobile service provider companies must prioritize calls made through police CUG numbers. For example, if there is a major incident and there is heavy traffic of calls, including that of police, administrative officials and the public, the 4G network will prioritise the calls made by the police, the release said.
"The TRAI has directed mobile service providers to give priority to calls made through police CUG SIM cards so that there is no delay in emergency services," the UP government release said. (ANI)
