UP government provided jobs to 500 medal winners in sports events in past two years: CM Adityanath

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 9 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the finals of a state-level men's wrestling competition in Gorakhpur on Friday.
Addressing the event, Adityanath said that the Uttar Pradesh government has provided jobs to 500 who have won medals across many national and international events in Uttar Pradesh police as well as other departments in the last 2 years.
"Sports not just keep a person physically fit but also are a key to a better future and we have provided jobs to 500 such athletes who have won medals in across many national and international events in Uttar Pradesh police as well as other departments in the last 2 years," he said.
Speaking on the silver medal won by Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra in the men's javelin throw and the Indian men's hockey team winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, Adityanath said that under PM Modi's leadership, Indian athletes are taking the sports to a new level.
"In Paris, the Olympics are underway, yesterday, you must have seen, Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in the javelin throw. India's hockey team increased India's pride across the world by winning medals in consecutive olympics...Under the leadership of PM Modi, Indian athletes are taking the sport to a new level," he said.
He further stated that Rs 6 crore, Rs 4 crore and Rs 2 crore of financial support are provided by the Uttar Pradesh government for gold, silver and bronze medal winners in individual sports at the Olympics.
"The Uttar Pradesh government provides financial support of Rs 6 crore, Rs 4 crore and Rs 2 crore to the individual medal winners in gold, silver and bronze, respectively. In Olympic team games, we provide Rs 3 crore, Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore to the gold, silver and bronze winners, respectively. We also provide financial aid for other international and national medal winners," he said.
The final match for the "Uttar Pradesh Veer Abhimanyu" title was held at a wrestling arena of the Gorakhnath temple.
Janardan of Gorakhpur district emerged victorious in the final match, defeating Sanish Khokhar of Meerut district. (ANI)
