Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 1 (ANI): With temperatures soaring high, a government school in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj came up with an innovative idea for beating the heat, turning the classroom into a swimming pool.
The school authorities said that students are enjoying it and their attendance is increasing. The measure was taken to maintain attendance as students were missing school due to crop harvest and heat waves.

Om Tiwari, an Assistant teacher told ANI, "Right now, wheat harvesting is going on and therefore lots of families are not sending the students to school...we went to call them back but we were not getting a proper response so we thought to come up with an innovative idea which will make students interested in coming to school".
Amid a heatwave in the state, measures are being taken to ensure that students do not suffer the consequences.
"So since the temperature is rising rapidly we made a swimming pool inside the classroom...students are enjoying this and their attendance has increased," he added.
Vaibhav Kumar, Principal told ANI, "As the weather department informed about the heat wave, we asked students to drink water and cool drinks...we also told them that people in cities bathe in swimming pools."
A maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in the capital Lucknow on Monday with an increase of 2.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded there was 24.6 degrees Celsius.
"Students asked us what swimming pools look like and when will they get to see it...And if we could make it in the schools, so we told them to speak to their parents and get permission. After discussion, we decided to make swimming pools inside the classroom...," he added.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted that the heatwave is likely to be above normal for 5-8 days in May over certain parts of the country.
"The number of heatwave days is likely to be above normal by about 5-8 days in May over south Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Gujarat region and 2-4 days over remaining parts of Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, north interior Karnataka and Telangana and isolated pockets of north Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh," said IMD.
