New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): Union Minister and BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding the attack on him in the Budge Budge area of Diamond Harbour of Kolkata. Majumdar alleged that the attack was carried out by "TMC-backed" criminal mobs.
Sukanta Majumdar alleged that the West Bengal police had not taken any action and were "mute." Taking on 'X', the BJP MP informed about the development and asserted that the West Bengal police failed to take any preventive action despite clear signs of escalating tension.
"Yesterday in Budge Budge, Diamond Harbour, by TMC-backed criminal mobs, while the West Bengal police stood as mute, spineless spectators. The police not only failed to act during the violence--they also failed to take any preventive action, despite clear signs of escalating tension. Even when a Union Minister of State and sitting Member of Parliament was targeted, the state machinery looked the other way. This is a grave breach of parliamentary privilege--a direct and dangerous assault on Indian democracy. Today, I have formally apprised Speaker Om Birla of this shocking breakdown of law and order in West Bengal", Sukanta Majumdar's 'X' post read.
Earlier on Thursday, Sukanta Majumdar alleged that stones and shoes were thrown at him by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers during his visit to Budge Budge when he was returning after meeting an injured BJP worker.
"I will inform the Home Ministry about this entire situation. They are doing such acts to destroy democracy. Bricks, stones, shoes were thrown at me. TMC sponsors the entire demonstration... Most of them must be people from Bangladesh who are doing hooliganism here," Union Minister Majumdar said.
He further said that police were inactive and did not take any action against the miscreants.
"Yesterday our workers participated in an all-party meeting where they were invited by the Block Development Officer...They were abducted, beaten brutally...Four workers of our party have been brutally beaten...There is no law and order in the state. Police is not doing anything. They were doing nothing. They should have dispersed the rioters," he said. (ANI)
