New Delhi [India], August 12 (ANI): Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday termed the Constitution Club of India (CCI) elections as non-political, stating that there is no place for "party-baazi" in the club.
The elections for the post of CCI secretary are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, with former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan and Rajiv Pratap Rudy in the fray.
"Constitution Club election is not political...There is no meaning of 'party-baazi' here," Kiren Rijiju told reporters.
Earlier, Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan said that the results of the Constitution Club of India elections don't matter, but the "dignity" of the Constitution Club should remain intact.
Baliyan, contesting alongside BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, recalled that the club was established to encourage discussions above party politics. He further noted that the results of the elections do not matter and the Constitution Club's purpose will be fulfilled now.
"Whatever the results, the dignity of this constitutional club remains intact; it is a platform for MPs and former MPs. It was formed to have discussions by rising above party lines. Good discussions take place here. It is a good thing that this club is in the news again," Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan told ANI.
After casting a vote, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha said that he had not witnessed such excitement in any other election across the party.
"It was a good experience. I haven't seen such excitement in any election so far, cutting across party lines", Sinha said.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also hailed the enthusiasm in the Constitution Club elections, stating that he has not seen such a crowd in the past 25 years. Dubey said that the dignity of the Constitution Club is returning.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Pyush Goyal also cast their vote in the elections.
Established in 1948, the Constitution Club of India aims to foster social contact and provide the usual amenities of club life for the benefit of the members of the Indian Constituent Assembly.
The Constitution Club of India is headed by the Speaker of Lok Sabha, along with the Executive Body Comprising sitting and former Members of Parliament. (ANI)
