Union Minister George Kurian elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh

Union Minister George Kurian has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 27 (ANI): Union Minister George Kurian has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh.
Kurian received his certificate of election from Returning Officer (RO) Arvind Sharma at the State Assembly on Tuesday. The certificate was presented in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state President VD Sharma.
"Today, I received a certificate for being elected as a Rajya Sabha member from the state. I wanted to thank the people of Madhya Pradesh, state party leadership, central leadership of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Kurian told reporters after receiving the certificate.
He further thanked CM Mohan Yadav for the grant of Rs 20 crore to Kerala facing natural calamity.
"MP CM Mohan Yadav provided a grant of Rs 20 to Kerala as a relief fund for the landslide that occurred in Wayanad. I wanted to extend my gratitude to him on behalf of the people of Kerala," he added.
CM Mohan Yadav congratulated Kurian and said that his presence in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh would certainly make the voice of the state even stronger.
"Congratulations to Union Minister of State George Kurian on being elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. Your presence in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh will certainly make the voice of the state even stronger," CM Yadav posted on X.
State BJP chief VD Sharma also congratulated Kurian and wrote on X, "On being elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister of State George Kurian reached Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly and received the certificate. On this occasion, I extended greetings to him along with CM Mohan Yadav."
With this, in the third term of the Modi government, there are seven union ministers from the state which include Shivraj Singh Chouhan (MP from Vidisha constituency), Jyotiraditya Scindia (MP from Guna), Virendra Kumar (MP from Tikamgarh), Durgadas Uikey (MP from Betul), Savitri Thakur (MP from Dhar), L Murugan (Rajya Sabha MP from state) and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from state George Kurian.
One Rajya Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh was vacant after Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) in Lok Sabha from Guna constituency in the recently concluded general elections 2024. (ANI)
