Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 6 (ANI): Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu inaugurated the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada Airport on Monday, aimed at providing affordable food options for passengers.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that the UDAN Yatri Cafe is the first affordable food outlet in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
"Hon'ble Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu Ji inaugurated Andhra Pradesh's first affordable food outlet at Vijayawada Airport. UDAN Yatri Cafe offers affordable food for passengers," the Ministry stated.
The cafe is part of the government's initiative under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel more affordable and accessible for the common man.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to monitor airfares, especially during the festive season. The DGCA is tasked with taking appropriate measures if there is a surge in prices, as stated in a press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Accordingly, the DGCA proactively addressed the issue with airlines and requested that airline companies augment their flight capacities for the festive season by deploying additional flights to meet the high demand.
In response, airlines have announced the addition of several new flights to meet increased demand. IndiGo will deploy approximately 730 additional flights across 42 sectors, while Air India and Air India Express together plan to operate around 486 extra flights across 20 sectors. Similarly, SpiceJet is set to add about 546 additional flights covering 38 sectors.
Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, at the 3rd North East Aviation Summit in Arunachal Pradesh, emphasised the need for deepening Centre-State-Industry to accelerate the growth of the Civil Aviation sector in the North East Region. During the event, he also emphasised that enhanced air connectivity is crucial for improving accessibility to remote and border areas, promoting tourism, facilitating cargo and logistics, etc, in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast Region.
