Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson CR Kesavan on Saturday slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the alleged gangrape at a Kolkata law college, and said women's safety is under serious threat in the state.
Kesavan questioned how such a crime could happen in a government-affiliated college and accused Banerjee of being insensitive to women's safety.
"The dignity and security of our sisters and daughters are facing a serious threat under Mamata Banerjee's misrule, and under the TMC regime, the state has become a living nightmare for women... The most startling fact is that Mamata Banerjee, above all, is a woman, the Chief Minister and Home Minister who oversees the state's police department... Yet, we see this ghastly crime being committed in a government-affiliated law college, and one of the main accused is an active member of the TMC student council. Why is Mamata Banerjee so unsympathetic and insensitive to the safety and protection of women?," Kesavan said.
Kesavan questioned how a TMC member could have such control in a government-affiliated college.
He further slammed MPs and senior members of the TMC party for their insensitive statements on the rape case.
"How does a TMC member have such unfettered access to a college where he's no longer a part of, and how can he summon students at will like this?... How can people of West Bengal even hope to get justice when MPs and senior members of the ruling party make such appalling, incorrigible statements?... The only way to ensure and protect the sisters and daughters of West Bengal is to throw out this TMC regime, which the people will do," Kesavan said.
A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside a law college in Kolkata's Kasba on Wednesday. The police have arrested all three accused within 24 hours.
The three accused, named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), were former students or staff members of the same law college.
According to the police, the accused named in the FIR will be produced before the ACJM of Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a prayer to remand them to Police Custody for a proper investigation into the case. (ANI)
