Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 21 (ANI): Kangana Ranaut, BJP's candidate from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, on Tuesday said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been rejuvenated and has started the journey towards becoming a developed country by 2047, the centenary of India's independence.
"The country has been rejuvenated in the last decade, leaving a dark chapter behind and taking a journey towards a developed nation by 2047. It is the result of the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Ranaut said during an election rally here.
"Now the country has emerged from big challenges like Naxalism and terrorism. The Indian Army enters enemies' homes and kills terrorists, while the strong central government also strengthens the country's resolve to take back PokK (Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir)," she added.
She attacked the Opposition INDIA bloc saying that it was soft on Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
"Congress is only a party of loot and plunder. The people of Mandi do not want to become accomplices of sin by voting for the Congress candidate. Congress has no leader and no policy; it can only do politics of appeasement and dynasty. The leaders of the INDI Alliance should tell who will be the Prime Minister of this arrogant alliance or are the people of the alliance dreaming of making five Prime Ministers in just five years because the Congress party is not going to win even 50 seats," Kangana said.
She also attacked her rival candidate from Congress, Vikramaditya Singh, saying that he is just a "spoiled prince".
"Vikramaditya is just a spoiled prince and perhaps his mother Pratibha Singh did not teach him what it means to respect a woman. He described Dev Samaj and Gods and Goddesses as one level below the monarchy. His ego is rising to his head," she said.
She also accused Vikramaditya of instigating the religious sentiments of the people.
"During this election campaign, I am getting full blessings from the people as well as the Gods and Goddesses. Vikramaditya is only working to instigate the religious sentiments of the people. He should stop becoming a contractor in the understanding of God because his conduct is against the welfare of the state. On June 4, it will become clear who will get the blessings of Gods and Goddesses and who will not," she said.
The contest in the constituency is expected to be fierce. Vikramaditya is a Congress heavyweight and the son of late former chief minister Virbhadra Singh.
The Mandi constituency holds symbolic significance for the Congress, as it is considered a bastion of the Virbhadra family.
The seat is currently held by Pratibha Devi Singh, the late leader's widow. She wrested the seat for the Congress in the bye-election that was held following the demise of then-BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma.
Polling in Himachal, which is scheduled for June 1, will not only pit candidates vying for Lok Sabha membership from four seats but also elect members for six assembly seats that fell vacant following the resignation and switchover of dissident Congress lawmakers. The BJP, which won all four Lok Sabha constituencies in the state in the 2019 elections, is eyeing an encore this time. (ANI)
