Agartala (Tripura) [India], December 15 (ANI): In a major operational success, two top militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (Biswamohan) were arrested by Tripura Police on Thursday night.
The arrested militants were identified as Sachin Debbarma and Utpal Debbarma.
The arrest is considered to be an important development as Sachin Debbarma was a self-styled Army Chief and Utpal Debbarma was a self-styled Secretary General of NLFT.
"Two NLFT activists Sachin Debbarma and Utpal Debbarma were arrested in joint operation of the State Police and Crime Branch and both are now under Judicial Custody. It's a big achievement for Tripura police and Tripura Police will continue such operations and will fully demolish all the related people soon," Kiran Kumar K, Superintendent of Police, West Tripura said.
The Organisation is at present truncated and virtually defunct.
The arrest is considered to be important because it is now expected to put the last nail in the coffin of the once-dreaded NLFT.
According to DIG Intelligence Krishnendu Chakraborty with this arrest as many as 24 NLFT/BM leaders and cadres in the last year and a half were either arrested or forced to surrender. (ANI)
