Dhar (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Two persons were arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a 21-year-old woman and pressuring her to change her religion to Islam in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, a police official said.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Sadalpur police station limits in the district on Thursday evening, June 20.
Sadalpur police station in charge, Savita Chaudhary said, "A youth belongs to a different community named Shahrukh who used to misguide a 21-year-old woman and befriended her by hiding his religion. Later on the accused started talking about Islam and saying everyone should adopt it. Following which, the woman got doubt and maintained distance from the accused."
One day the accused told the woman that he was Shahrukh and wanted to marry her. The victim got scared and kept distant with the accused but the accused kept on torturing the woman; pressuring her to meet and to marry with him, the police officer added.
"On Thursday evening, the woman went to a medical shop, where the accused Shahrukh also arrived. He took the woman behind, misbehaved with her and threatened her to harm her family member. The woman got scared and shouted for help, following which accused Sahhrukh escaped from the spot and the people gathered there caught the medical shop owner, Junaid and handed him over to the police," Chaudhary said.
"After that we have registered a case under IPC section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 A (Sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and relevant sections of Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act. There are two accused (Shahrukh and Junaid) involved in the matter and both have been arrested," the police officer said.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, she added. (ANI)
