Two held for snatching, gang dismantled after shootout in Punjab

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], November 10 (ANI): The Amritsar Police Commissionerate Police in a swift operation dismantled a gang involved in armed snatchings and arrested the main members of the gang, as per the Punjab Police.
The arrested have been identified as Gurpreet S and Vishal.
A lead had revealed the location of a concealed firearm, and while he was being escorted to recover it from Ram Tirath road, the accused Vishal feigned illness. He drew a hidden pistol and fired at the police, the Punjab Police said.
In self-defence, the officers responded and injured him in order to neutralize the threat.
Taking to social media X, the DGP Punjab Police wrote in a post on Saturday, "In a swift operation, Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a gang involved in armed snatchings, arresting key members Gurpreet S and Vishal. A lead revealed the location of a concealed firearm, and while being escorted to recover it, Vishal feigned illness then drew a hidden pistol and fired at the police. In self-defence, officers responded decisively, injuring him and neutralizing the threat. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway."

On November 8, the Punjab Police made a significant step in the fight against smuggling of of illegal arms after they arrested two operatives who were linked to a Portugal-based gangster Manpreet Singh aka Mannu Ghanshampuria.
The two detained operatives have been identified as Aditya Kapoor, alias Makhan, from Lahori Gate, Amritsar, and Ravinder Singh from the village of Akarpura in Gurdaspur. Police recovered four firearms from their possession, including a 9mm Glock pistol, two foreign-made .30 bore pistols, and one .32 bore pistol, along with five magazines and 14 live cartridges.
The arrested individuals were also found to have connections with USA-based criminals Balwinder Singh, alias Doni Bal, and Prabhdeep Singh, alias Prabh Dasuwal, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.
The Punjab police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and demonstrates unwavering commitment to public safety and dismantling organized crime in the state. (ANI)
