Chandigarh [India], November 30 (ANI): Congress MP Manish Tiwari expressed sadness on the recent violence in Sambhal and said that the opposition is trying to raise the issue in Parliament for discussion too.
He also said that it is very important to maintain peace and harmony in the country.
"Whatever happened in Sambhal is very sad. We are trying to raise this issue in the Parliament. For the growth and progress of the nation, it is very important to ensure peace and harmony in the nation."
Earlier, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari questioned the state government and the district administration in Sambhal over not allowing an opposition party's delegation to visit the tense area.
"What is the district administration hiding? Why does the state government not want the opposition to visit Sambhal? They should allow the delegation to visit Sambhal," Tiwari told ANI.
"The Samajwadi Party leader has said that the opposition, of whatever party will help with calming down the area, and instill confidence in the region. But the delegation has been asked to stop and we will stop, we just want to cooperate, not confrontation," Pramod Tiwari added while quoting a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader.
Meanwhile, the official handle of the Samajwadi Party claimed that their Uttar Pradesh party president was put under house arrest. The party condemned the actions of the UP Police while accusing the state government of "disgracing" the Constitution and democracy.
"Yogi government is afraid of SP delegation! On the orders of the government, the police prevented the honourable state president Shri Shyam Lal Pal ji from coming to Sambhal and put him under house arrest. The BJP government is tearing apart the constitution and democracy. Highly condemnable," the Samajwadi Party posted on X.
Violence broke out in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh after a court ordered ASI survey on November 19, of the Jama Masjid in the district. People clashed with police, resulting in the deaths of four persons. The survey was followed after a petition filed by some persons in the local court, claiming that the site of the mosque was previously a Harihar temple. (ANI)
