Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 10 (ANI): As rains pounded Himachal Pradesh for the third consecutive day on Monday, leading to widespread flooding and causing damage to life and property, a video has emerged in which a truck can be seen being washed away by the heavy flow of the swollen Beas River.
The India Meteorological Department said that the intense spell of rains over the hill state is likely to decrease from tomorrow.
As per IMD, it had given a warning for extremely heavy rainfall and issued red alerts in Himachal Pradesh.
"Tomorrow onwards, rain is likely to decrease in Himachal Pradesh but in Uttarakhand, for the next 3 days, similar kind or a little lower intensity rain is likely to continue...Today, heavy rain expected in eastern Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and south Rajasthan...," said the IMD.
Meanwhile, on the rising water level due to incessant rain, Soumya Sambasivan, Mandi SP said, "Those living across the Beas River have been rescued...They have been sent to the rescue centre. The overall situation is under control because only 3 to 4 casualties have been reported."
Houses along the Beas River in the Mandi district have been evacuated as a result of the rising water level caused by incessant rainfall.
Earlier today, the state government asked all the field officers and officials who were on leave to report for duty immediately.
"In pursuance of the widespread damage/losses caused by unprecedented rainfall in the State of Himachal Pradesh and in order to ensure timely response, relief measures and restoration efforts and in exercise of the powers vested under Section 24 (e) (f) and (I) of Disaster Management Act, 2005, I hereby order that all the field officers and officials who are on leave shall report for duty immediately so that timely relief and restoration works can be carried out in time bound manner," it the letter read.
"No Officer/Official shall proceed on leave without prior approval of the next higher authority. Leave may only be sanctioned only in case of unavoidable circumstances," the letter read.
In the wake of excessive rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and inquired about the extent of the damages caused to life and property due to heavy rains and floods in the state.
The torrential rains have wreaked havoc on Himachal Pradesh, affecting the lives of many across the state. (ANI)
