Tripura: Victim teachers rally in support of BJP

Agartala [Tripura] Jan 12 (ANI) Hundreds of teachers, whose services were terminated last year following the Supreme Court's order, took part in a rally on Thursday in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for referring their case to the Ministry of Law to examine the scope of saving their jobs.

The government school teachers praised Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, MLA Sudip Roy Barman and other BJP leaders for alluding their case to the Centre.

Recently, a seven member's delegation led by Sarma and teacher's representatives met Javadekar with the plea to give one-time relaxation to the appointment of the teachers by amending the Right to Education Act so that their services can be saved.

According to the teachers, the Union Minister has responded positively to their plea and referred the case to the Law Ministry to examine it.

Allegedly, they met state Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and urged him to appeal to the Centre but he turned down their request and following which they reached out to the BJP.

They added that the state government has assured them of being by their side but nothing positive happened.

Though the services of 10, 323 teachers were terminated on December 31 last year by the top court, it extended their services for another six months on a fresh ad-hoc basis in response to a petition of the state government.

Ahead of the February 2018 Assembly elections, the termination of these teachers is set to become a major political issue in the Left-ruled Tripura, where the BJP has turned into a major opposition with six out of 10 Congress MLAs joining the party. (ANI)
