Agartala (Tripura) [India], October 6 (ANI): After Durga Puja festivities concluded, the city's markets have once again come alive with the vibrant spirit of Kojagari Lakshmi Puja preparations in Agartala & the whole state of Tripura.
Following tradition, artisans and potters across different parts of the city have set up their stalls, showcasing colourful Lakshmi idols in various sizes from small to large to cater to the festive crowd.
Sellers claim that idol prices have remained almost the same as last year despite a slight rise in raw material costs.
"Although the cost of materials has increased somewhat, we've tried to keep prices steady for the buyers," said one artisan from the bustling idol-making area, where potters are busy cutting clay, painting, and adding final touches to the idols.
Buyers have already begun flocking to the markets to select their favourites. Prices start at around ₹300 for small idols, ₹500 for medium ones, and ₹800 for larger ones.
One enthusiastic buyer shared, "Today I came to the market for Lakshmi Puja shopping and bought an idol for ₹300. Prices are a bit higher than last year, but I'm very happy with my purchase."
Vendors, too, expressed satisfaction with the sales. "The market situation this year is similar to last year -- there's good enthusiasm. People are buying many idols, and I've sold quite a few. I've kept prices low so everyone can afford them," said a local idol seller.
Meanwhile, fruit sellers reported steady demand ahead of the festival. "Like last year, the prices of fruits are the same this time. I've kept rates low so everyone can buy," said a fruit vendor, arranging piles of bananas, coconuts, and seasonal fruits ready for the puja offerings.
With markets buzzing and festive spirits soaring, the city is all set to welcome Goddess Lakshmi with devotion and joy.
Shantana Paul, a resident, said, "Today I came to the market for Lakshmi Puja shopping. I bought an idol. Just as last year, the prices of everything in the market are quite high again this year. Many idols have arrived in the market. I bought mine for ₹300. I'm very happy with it. Thank you.
Idol Sellar, Satyaranjan Rudrapaul, said, "The market situation this year is similar to last year -- there is good enthusiasm. People have bought many idols this time, and I have also sold quite a few. I have kept the prices of the idols very low so that people can afford them and feel satisfied after buying."
Fruit Seller, Litan Paul said, "Like last year, the prices of fruits are the same this year too. I have a variety of fruits, and customers are coming to buy them. I have kept the prices very low so that everyone can afford to buy fruits." (ANI)
