Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 2 (ANI): Tripura Chief Secretary JK Sinha asserted that the National Green Tribunal had appreciated Tripura for its work in the field of urban sanitation.
"Due to the administration's concerted efforts to overhaul the solid waste and liquid waste management systems in the urban areas of the state,, we have emerged as one of the few states that were not penalised. Almost all the states had been asked to pay a heavy penalty for their poor performance in this specific sector," he explained on Saturday.
Addressing the inaugural session of the one-day workshop on solid waste management, Sinha said, "We are the only state that, in its report to the National Green Tribunal, also laid emphasis on the vision of rural sanitation. The NGT wanted to know what the states had been doing for sanitation in urban areas, to be specific. But we have willingly disclosed what we want to do in rural areas as well."
Jitendra Srivastava, Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, also attended the event held at a private hotel in Agartala. According to Sinha, after effective implementation of the e-office policy, the state is now set to adopt the green office clean office initiative.
"Today, I don't have any files in my office. The ministers and senior officials have totally switched to a digital mode of working. At the district level as well, the e-office method is gradually making inroads. Now, our motive should be to effectively implement the green office clean office initiative," the Chief Secretary has said.
Taking a vow to make Tripura among the top-ranking states in sanitation, the chief secretary said, "We will leave no stone unturned to make our dream a reality. There is no dearth of funds, but lineability and sanitation should be our top priorities. (ANI)
