Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 2 (ANI): The High Court of Tripura has directed the Tripura Public Service Commission to constitute a fresh expert committee for re-evaluating the results of prelim exams conducted for recruitment in Tripura Engineering Service.
The directive came after the Controller of the Exams physically appeared before the High Court single bench headed by Justice Arindam Lodh, senior advocate Sankar Lodh who is appearing for the petitioners, told ANI.
According to Lodh, two petitions were filed in the High Court citing a series of discrepancies in the question paper and answer key published after the examinations were over. In light of the court proceedings, TPSC has deferred the main examinations that were supposed to be held from May 3 to May 5 here. The postponement notice didn't specify a time frame.
"We have been able to convince the court with our argument, which says that the final answer key and the question paper were full of mistakes. In some calculations, the right answer was not found in the options, leading to confusion and lower scores for some bright students. The Court after hearing the arguments advanced from the end of the petitioners, passed an order and asked the exam conducting body to constitute a fresh committee to conduct a re-evaluation of the preliminary results," said Lodh.
Lodh also said that the High Court passed the order after the Controller of Exam for TPSC apprised the Court on the complications surrounding the recruitment tests.
"The Court gave a patient hearing to the exam controller and also sought his response on the corrective measures. The Court has only kept one rigid condition: the members of the previous evaluation committee can't be incorporated in the fresh committee, which will be formed as per the order," added Lodh.
Meanwhile, TPSC issued a notification on Thursday announcing the postponement of the exams.
"It is for the information of all concerned that in pursuance of the Writ Petition WP(C) No-164/2024 & WP(C) No-166/2024 and hearing at the High Court of Tripura on May 2, 2024, the Main Examination for recruitment to the post of Junior Engineer, TES Gr-V(A) & TES Gr-V(B) under the Department of Public Works, Govt. of Tripura, scheduled to be held on & from May 3, 2024, has been deferred until further notice," the notification undersigned by S Mog, secretary TPSC, reads.
It is worthy of note here that the preliminary exams were conducted in October, 2023 for recruitment for the posts of junior engineers. The advertisement was made for both degree- and diploma qualified aspirants. (ANI)
