Transparency brought about in Padma awards: PM Modi

New Delhi [India] January 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that transparency has been brought about in Padma Awards in their tenure.

Addressing the nation in his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said, "Transparency has been brought about in Padma awards. The entire process has been changed in past three years."

The Prime Minister mentioned names of some Padma Shri award recipients, while lauding their contribution for the nation.

Prime minister praised Padma Shri awardee Arvind Gupta, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, who inspired generations of students to learn science from trash.

"Arvindji has been making toys from garbage for over four decades so that children can increase their curiosity towards science," he said.

He also took names of Sitavaa Jodatti from Karnataka and Kerala's tribal lady Lakshmikutty for continuously serving the society.

"Laxmikutty is a teacher in Kerala's Kallar and still resides in a hut made of palm leaves in a tribal tract amidst dense forests. She prepares 500 types of herbal medicines from her memory. She was been conferred with Padma Shri award," he said. (ANI)
