Ambaji (Gujarat) [India], October 24 (ANI): A day after an under-construction bridge collapsed in Palanpur, claiming one life, Gujarat police assured tough action against those found guilty in the incident.
Gujarat Police ADGP Shamsher Singh said, "Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the Palanpur bridge accident."
63 check posts have been installed after the incident, said Gujarat Police.
Congress leader Amit Chavda expressed disappointment over the collapse of the bridge and blamed corruption in the state.
"An overbridge collapsed near Palanpur RTO Circle, three people including a rickshaw driver are feared to be buried in the debris after a part of the overbridge collapsed. Corruption has developed, will the officials be changed"? he asked in a post on X.
On Sunday, a person was killed as he ran to save his life when an under-construction bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Palanpur.
The incident took place near the RTO circle area.
Varun Baranval, Collector Banaskantha-Palanpur, while speaking to ANI said that the bridge fell possibly due to a mechanical failure."The girders on the bridge fell possibly due to a mechanical failure. A team from Gandhinagar are on their way to Palanpur to conduct a technical study on this matter. One body was retrieved from under the debris," Varun Baranval said.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is underway. (ANI)
