TN Fisheries Min stresses on formation of CMB

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Mar. 9 (ANI): Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar on Friday said that the state government will stress on the Central Government for the formation of Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

Jayakumar's statement comes hours after Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) supremo H D Deve Gowda asked the Centre to set up the CMB if it benefits Karnataka and ensured increased share of water to the state.

"There is clear cut order of Supreme Court for the constitution of Cauvery Management Board within six weeks of time. Tamil Nadu Government will stress that the Supreme Court verdict is implemented," Jayakumar told reporters here.

The Supreme Court on February 16 had ordered the Central Government to set up the CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee within six weeks.

The apex court had also increased Karnataka's share of Cauvery water and reduced Tamil Nadu's share to 177.25 thousand million cubic feet. (ANI)
