"This shows that double-engine government is just interested in their publicity": RJD' Sanjay Yadav

"When they were aware of the capacity of the station, why did they not take any preventive measures? This only shows that this double engine government is just interested in the publicity of themselves. The UP government did not take any responsibility of the Prayagraj stampede. This double-engine government is neither taking responsibility nor giving answers..." Yadav said, speaking to ANI.

Patna (Bihar) [India], February 16 (ANI): RJD leader Sanjay Yadav on Sunday hit out at the central government over the loss of lives in the stampede at the New Delhi Railway station. He alleged that the double-engine government was only interested in publicity for themselves.
"When they were aware of the capacity of the station, why did they not take any preventive measures? This only shows that this double engine government is just interested in the publicity of themselves. The Uttar Pradesh government did not take any responsibility of the Prayagraj stampede. This double-engine government is neither taking responsibility nor giving answers..." Yadav said, speaking to ANI.
Further, he questioned the role of the government and management in light of the increasing number of stampedes.
"The question that arises is that with these accidents happening continuously, what is the administration and the management doing. What role did the government play in handling the crowd? Why is so many people losing their lives just becoming normal?? Why is the government not saying anything?..." the RLD leader asked.
Yadav also demanded the government to help the families of the deceased with employment and a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families.
"We demand a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families. They should also help the families of the deceased with their employment..." Yadav said.
Earlier in the day, Congress MP K C Venugopal also hit out at the Central government and alleged that the Centre is utterly incompetent and is only capable of PR, not actual management.
In a post on X, Venugopal said, "The stampede at New Delhi Railway Station is shocking and deeply tragic. The visuals that have come out are scary, and point to a massive calamity. I convey my deepest condolences to the families of the innocent victims, and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. This kind of a disaster taking place in the national capital, under the direct watch of the Central Government, shows that the government is utterly incompetent and is only capable of PR, not actual management."
He further raised questions on the exact figure of the number of deaths.
"The Government has again tried to downplay the situation. When will we know the exact figures of the dead and injured? Why were crowd control measures not in place? Why did the railways not run special trains when they knew this crowd was to be anticipated in light of the Mahakumbh?" he further said.
The stampede took place on February 15 around 10 pm at the New Delhi Railway Station when thousands of devotees were heading to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival, causing severe overcrowding at the station. (ANI)
