New Delhi [India], April 2 (ANI): Congress MP and Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Ammendment bill Imran Masood on Wednesday said that the Bill which is to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today was dangerous for the whole country.
Taking a jibe at the Uttar Pradesh government for declaring 78 per cent of properties including old mosques as government property, Masood said that the Waqf Amendment Bill was overlapping several sections of the Constitution.
Speaking to ANI, he said, "I cannot give an example bigger than the Uttar Pradesh government... they declared 78 per cent property as government property...which included several old mosques.. and now this has been given to a designated officer where there is no time limit. This is a very dangerous situation and it is completely overlapping the sections of the Constitution..."
Further, he stated that even though the government had said that nothing would happen to Muslims, they had made provisions where a property would not be considered as Waqf until it was investigated by a designated officer.
"We are ready for discussion. But I want to tell you the truth. The government is repeatedly saying that nothing will happen to Muslims, but they have made a provision that any property which is government property, in which the government has a stake, is disputed, that property will not be considered a Waqf until it is investigated by a designated officer, the disputed property will no longer be a Waqf..." he further added.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore said that the government should not spread fake news further stating that the Waqf Bill was against the Constitution and an attack on it.
Speaking to ANI, Tagore said "The government should not spread fake news. This bill is against the Constitution and is an attack on the Constitution..."
On the meeting of Congress MPS with Rahul Gandhi, Tagore said that the LoP would give guidance on the strategy of the party.
"Today, Congress MPs will have a meeting with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi will guide on what will be the strategy of Congress and who will be our speakers," he further said. (ANI)
