"They could not alleviate poverty": BJP MP Mayank Nayak slams Jairam Ramesh over Waqf Amendment Bill

New Delhi [India], April 5 (ANI): BJP Member of Parliament Mayank Nayak has defended the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, calling it a historic move that aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas."
Speaking to ANI on the Bill, Nayak stated, "Through this Bill, PM Modi's government has made an effort to follow 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' with respect to poor Muslims in the country."
Nayak expressed gratitude to MPs from the NDA and other parties who supported the bill. He also targeted Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, saying, "As far as Jairam Ramesh is concerned, this is his art of doing politics. They remained in power by seeking votes in the name of the poor. They could not alleviate poverty but were governed with the aim of letting poverty continue."
The BJP MP further criticized the Congress' opposition to the Bill, claiming it was politically motivated.
"They are now trying to keep their minority vote bank intact. They want to approach the Court. What else can they do? They failed on the floor of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha," Nayak added.
He emphasized that while Jairam Ramesh and his party claimed to be fighting for the poor, their actions were obstructing progress and development for the community.
"They will tell society that they are fighting for them, but society should know that they are not fighting for them but obstructing your development," Nayak said.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has strongly criticised the Waqf Amendment Bill passed by the Parliament, calling it a move akin to trade or business rather than a genuine effort to protect Muslim interests.
Addressing a press conference, Raut alleged that the government's focus was more on acquiring valuable Waqf properties and land, estimated to be worth around Rs 2 lakh crore, than on safeguarding the welfare of Muslims.
"Such bills are no less than a trade or business. The government claims to protect Muslims, but in reality, they are more interested in properties and land worth Rs 2 lakh crore," Raut said, expressing strong disapproval of the bill.
He further claimed that the bill was designed not to care for Muslims or their properties but to seize their land, asserting that the bill's intentions were far from benevolent.
"We will keep our word and protest against it... This bill has been brought not to care for the muslims or the properties of muslims but to grab the land of the muslims...When they see land, they get crazy. They will soon take Waqf land," Raut said. (ANI)
