Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 6 (ANI): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah stated that it is the constitutional responsibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "provide security" to every citizen but alleged instead they are "creating division" and "spreading hatred".
"Sometimes, PM (Narendra Modi) says that 'Mangalsutra' will be taken away and given to Muslims. Sometimes they say that the box of dal will be x-rayed, and whatever is in it, it will also be taken away, If a Hindu has two houses, one will be taken away, and given to Muslims," Farooq told reporters here.
The former Union Minister also stressed that Narendra Modi as a PM represents every citizen of the country and "not only the Hindus".
"PM is giving a statement against the Constitution, he (Narendra Modi) is not only the PM of Hindus, but of the entire country, whose constitutional responsibility is to provide security to every citizen. But instead of providing protection, they (BJP) are creating division, spreading hatred...," said the J&K National Conference President.
PM Modi, while addressing a public rally on April 21 charged Congress and said if Congress is voted to power, then they will conduct a wealth survey to seize the assets of people and take away their life-long savings.
While stressing the importance of 'Mangalsutra' (traditional Indian jewellery worn by married Indian women), for women, he said that no government has the power to snatch it away.
"When they (Congress) were in government, they said that Muslims have the first right over India's resources. So, they will distribute this wealth (property and gold) among those having more children, among illegal immigrants...this urban Naxal thinking won't even spare your Mangalsutra," the PM said.
The Congress alleged that PM Modi and the BJP have deliberately and repeatedly invoked religion, religious symbols and religious sentiments in its election campaign and the same is being done without any impunity.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases running in a six-week marathon from April 19 to June 1.
Meanwhile, polling for the 93 parliamentary constituencies will be held on Tuesday, May 6.
The counting of votes and results will be declared on June 4. (ANI)
