Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 29 (ANI): Sambhal Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shrish Chandra on Friday said that there is normalcy and peace everywhere in the district and Namaz prayers were offered peacefully.
On November 24, four people were killed and many others, including policemen, were injured after violence broke out over a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal.
"Namaz prayers have been offered peacefully. There is normalcy and peace everywhere," he told ANI.
Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh also confirmed that the Namaz prayers were offered peacefully in the entire district.
Singh stated that the police will not take any action without proof.
He said, "We always wanted peace, but some people succeeded in instigating some people. The public is coordinating with us and the situation is normal. Namaaz prayers were offered peacefully in Sambhal. We are instilling confidence in the public. We are gathering evidence and without proof, we will not take any action... We are focusing on catching those who hatched the conspiracy..."
Earlier today, the Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman said that the committee formed to probe the Sambhal stone-pelting incident should comprise the sitting Supreme Court Judge.
Speaking to ANI, Rehman said "SP has been demanding that the probe committee should comprise the sitting Supreme Court's judge. We have approached the Supreme Court demanding that the case regarding the survey which is in the district court, should be stopped and the case should be heard in the Supreme court..."
"The Place of Worship Act should be used properly. A petition has also been filed over the Ajmer dargah as well. When will this stop?.. Saying that Babar Sahab broke the temple and built the mosque is wrong. There was already a mosque there since a very long time... Why are a few selected people being given a chance to disturb the atmosphere?" he added.
Notably, UP Governor Anandiben Patel has constituted a three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission to be headed by Justice Devendra Kumar Arora (Retired), Allahabad High Court, to probe the stone-pelting incident in Sambhal.
UP Deputy CM KP Maurya said that the state government would ensure that law and order prevail in the city.
"The government follows the orders given by the Supreme Court. Samajwadi Party does the work to violate the SC orders. I advise goons and rioters of the Samajwadi Party to not disturb the atmosphere else their party will sink," he said.
This comes after a stone-pelting incident took place in Sambhal during the ASI examination of the Mughal-era mosque, resulting in the death of four people and injuries caused to several other locals and police officials.
Police and security personnel had been deployed in the district to ensure there was no violence, and Namaz was offered properly at the Shahi Jama Masjid. (ANI)
