New Delhi [India], December 11 (ANI): BJP MP Jagdambika Pal lambasted Rahul Gandhi for staging a walk-out after a heated debate on electoral reforms with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Jagdambika Pal questioned Rahul Gandhi for "fleeing" from the Lower House in the middle of Amit Shah's speech, asserting that the people are watching those who "abandon" the field.
"Then why did he leave? People who flee, abandoning the field, the country is watching," he said on Thursday.
The BJP MP further backed Amit Shah for his speech on electoral reforms, saying that the latter "held a mirror" against all the questions raised on electoral reforms and SIR.
He also remarked about the SC's argument of continuing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
"When people went to the Supreme Court against SIR, the Supreme Court also said there is no reason to stop SIR... So how long will they keep blaming the Election Commission, voter list, EVM for their defeat?" he said.
On Wednesday, Amit Shah and Rahul Gandhi sparred over the allegations of 'vote chori' in the Parliament, with the latter challenging Shah to conduct a debate on his three press conferences pertaining to his claims of 'voter Chori', to which the Home Minister retorted "Parliament won't function as per his wish."
Interrupting the Home Minister during his speech in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi challenged him to a debate on his three press conferences regarding the allegations of 'vote chori'.
"Yesterday, I asked why Election Commissioners were given full immunity. We want to understand their thinking behind it. He (Amit Shah) talked about Haryana. He cited one example. There are several other examples. There are 19 lakh fake voters there. Actually, let us have a debate on my press conference. Amit Shah ji, I challenge you to have a debate on my three press conferences," Rahul Gandhi said.
Responding to the LoP's remarks, Shah said the former would not decide the order of his speech and should remain patient.
"The Leader of Opposition (LoP) asked for answers to his questions. 'You can't run the parliament with your obstinacy. I will decide the order of my speech. The parliament won't function like this. He should be patient. I will answer each and every point," he asserted.
Rahul Gandhi replied, "This is a completely defensive response. This is a frightened response; this is not a genuine response."
Shortly after the incident, the Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha, while Amit Shah was still replying to the discussion on electoral reforms. (ANI)
