New Delhi [India], August 9 (ANI): The Waqf Board Amendment Bill will provide accountability, transparency and justice, said Union Law and Parliament Affairs Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal here on Friday.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Meghwal spoke about aspects of the Waqf Board Amendment Bill that was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8.
Speaking on the matter of why the bill is required, what is the government's stand? And on the opposition's allegations that this is the government's political agenda and that the bill amendment is against minorities, Meghwal said, "The Waqf Board Amendment Bill will provide accountability and transparency and those who are truly entitled to get justice will get it. Why was the amendment brought in 1995? It happened in 2013 as well. The government also has a duty to provide transparent administration."
He further said that there was a policy of appeasement in the Congress government, which is why they did not do any work on the Waqf board bill. many committees have said that the Waqf board is misusing the property. The contractors have sat down and the poor Muslim women are not getting their rights. Even after this, the previous government did not pay attention to it.
Meghwal further stated, "The elected government does not work on the basis of religion. This is the political agenda of the Congress and the opposition. We only have the agenda of justice in it. Even when we brought the Triple Talaq Resolution Bill, they were saying the same thing, but the public would benefit from it. Of course, it happened. Due to the appeasement policy, Congress did not pay attention to this bill earlier. Now our government is working for Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, which is the Muslim society, and is working to provide justice to the oppressed people."
He also said, "We have introduced the Waqf amendment bill to regulate the Waqf property. Memorandums have been received from different sections of Muslim society, in the Minority Ministry and also in the Law Ministry, that there should be a change in this law because the case always gets stuck somewhere after going to the criminal court and then the court does not take any action on it. When we go to the collector, they say that we do not have the right to do so."
He further stated, "There are also such cases where the entire village has been written as Waqf property. Many times such things are written that cause trouble to the Muslim public. There are many such cases, hence, there was a need for amendment in it. After the consultation, it was approved by the cabinet and the Waqf amendment bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha.
In this, the entire section of Muslim society will get justice. This is a bill to provide justice." (ANI)
