Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 5 (ANI): Telangana Congress President Bomma Maheshkumar Goud on Thursday defended the detention of BRS leader Harish Rao by the state police, stating that the officers were simply carrying out their duties.
"Threatening officers is unacceptable. If you do something wrong, action will be taken against you in accordance with the law. You have freedom of expression, but if you threaten, harass, or obstruct officials, action will follow. The officers are doing their job," Bomma Maheshkumar Goud told ANI.
Harish Rao was detained on Thursday morning from the Kondapur residence of Padi Kaushik Reddy and was taken to the Gachibowli police station. He was later released at night.
BRS supporters staged protests outside the Gachibowli police station, denouncing the detention. BRS national spokesperson D. Sravan condemned the move, terming it "illegal" and accusing Telangana's administration of engaging in dictatorial practices.
"I strongly condemn the illegal detention of Harish Rao. I condemn the Police Raj in Telangana under the dictatorial rule of Shri Revanth Reddy," D. Sravan posted on X.
BRS MLA Harish Rao alleged that MLA Kaushik Reddy had faced illegal arrest after filing a complaint about phone tapping at a police station.
According to Harish Rao, several policemen arrived at Kaushik Reddy's residence in an attempt to arrest him without sufficient justification.
Harish Rao also claimed that he and other BRS leaders were subjected to unfair treatment when they questioned the actions of the police.
"When MLA Kaushik Reddy went to the police station to complain about phone tapping, a case was filed against him. In the morning, dozens of policemen came to the MLA's house and attempted an illegal arrest. When we questioned this, they behaved wickedly towards me and other BRS leaders, arresting us illegally and taking us to the police station," he posted on X.
Harish Rao criticised Revanth Reddy, describing his governance as "demonic" despite being labelled as democratic.
"You (Revanth Reddy) continue a demonic rule under the guise of democracy. We are not afraid of your petty threats and illegal cases. Telangana society itself will teach you a lesson," he posted on X.
On Wednesday, the BRS party had alleged that Huzurabad MLA Kaushik Reddy visited the Banjara Hills Police Station to lodge a complaint against Revanth Reddy and Intelligence Chief Shivdhar Reddy, accusing them of phone tapping. However, the Banjarahills Circle Inspector reportedly fled the scene upon his arrival.
Kaushik Reddy expressed his outrage, accusing government officials loyal to the ruling party of acting without accountability.
"The Huzurabad MLA who went to Banjara Hills Police Station to file a complaint against Revanth Reddy and Intelligence Chief Shivdhar Reddy for tapping opposition leaders' phones ... the Banjarahills CI fled upon seeing Padi Kaushik Reddy. MLA Kaushik Reddy expressed anger that government officials, who blindly follow the ruling party's orders, are not being held accountable," the BRS posted on X on Wednesday. (ANI)
