"The burden will be more in America," says JMM's Mahua Maji on US imposing additional 25% tariffs on India

New Delhi [India], August 7 (ANI): After US President Donald Trump announced a 25 per cent additional tariff on Indian goods, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji said the move will hurt the American economy more in comparison to India.
She said the US will face rising inflation, while India should focus on strengthening trade with other countries.
Maji added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should address the issue in his Mann Ki Baat, given his previous good relations with Trump.
Speaking to ANI, Mahua Maji said, "Whatever is happening, it will not have much impact on the Indian economy. It will have an impact on the US economy. Trump should understand that inflation will increase there. We have so many people here; they live in poverty, too, and they do not need much. So, the Prime Minister should definitely mention in Mann Ki Baat that he has had such good relations with Trump. What happened suddenly? as he gave the slogan 'ab ki baar Trump Sarkaar,'"
"The people of India know the art of living in every way, but the burden will be more in America. And I think an alternative arrangement should also be found. If the relations with America are not good, either they should be improved immediately, and then efforts should be made to strengthen our business in other places as well, because this world is very big. There is not only America here," she added.
A day earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on imports from India.
According to the order issued by the White House, Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase, claiming that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States.
After the order, the total tariff on Indian goods will be 50 per cent.
While the initial duty becomes effective on August 7, the additional levy will come into effect after 21 days and will be imposed on all Indian goods imported into the US, except for goods already in transit or those meeting specific exemptions. (ANI)
