Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 7 (ANI): Telangana government on Tuesday said to have sent 1,000 employees of various power utilities of the state to help cyclone 'Fani' ravaged Odisha in restoring power supply in the state.
"Telangana government has extended support for the restoration of electricity supply in Odisha. On Tuesday 1,000 employees from various power utilities of Telangana State have left for Odisha," the Telangana Chief Minister Office said.
Electricity poles were uprooted and power transmission lines broke down, crippling electricity supply after "extremely severe cyclonic storm" Fani hit the state.
"In view of this, the government of Odisha requested the government of Telangana to extend support in the restoration of electricity in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao positively responded."
"CM has given instructions over the telephone to Chief Secretary SK Joshi and CMD, Transco, Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao to offer support to Odisha. Accordingly, 1,000 personnel of various power utilities were deputed," said the CMO.
At least 37 people lost their lives and around 1.48 crore people were affected due to cyclone 'Fani' so far. Nearly 6 lakh houses have been damaged due to the cyclone.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), earlier in the day, released Rs 1,000 crore for the restoration work in cyclone-hit Odisha as assured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
An MHA statement said the amount would be in addition to Rs 341 crore that has been provided to Odisha's State Disaster Response Force in advance. (ANI)
