Jayashankar Bhupalpally (Telangana) [India], June 7 (ANI): Telangana's Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy along with other irrigation department officials on Friday visited the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project to carry out an inspection.
He reviewed the necessary steps that are required to be taken for the project. He also reviewed the progress of the implementation of interim measures recommended by NDSA and the ongoing monsoon flood protection works.
"I have come here after the Kaleshwaram project fiasco to oversee the repair, rectification and related works. For about two and a half months we were tied down by the model code of conduct. The revival of this project is a priority because the government has already spent 94,000 crores on it. So I've come to see the barrages and try and get the works expedited. We have reviewed everything today. We will finish the work soon."
Lauding the INDIA alliance's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he said, "The performance of the INDI alliance was magnificent. However, we slightly missed forming the government. The decision of the people of the country that the Narendra Modi government has failed is very clear."
Notably, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has significantly improved its performance in Telangana compared to the 2019 elections. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) garnered 7,647,424 votes, translating to a 35.08% vote share. This is a substantial increase from 2019 when the BJP received 3,626,173 votes, which was 19.65% of the vote share. The notable surge in voter support demonstrates the BJP's growing influence in Telangana's political landscape.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
