Telangana govt assures support to couple stabbed by kin

Hyderabad horror: Girl continues to be critical

Telangana (Hyderabad), Sep 19 (ANI): Hours after a woman and her husband were attacked by her father in SR Nagar area, Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav assured that the state government will provide assistance to the couple.
"Although the boy is out of danger, the girl is critical. Both the families agreed to accept the marriage at the police station last week. However, the couple was attacked by the girl's father today afternoon. The government will do everything to provide support. The girl's father has also been nabbed by the cops," he told ANI.
As per the doctor who is treating the couple, the woman, Madhavi, continues to be in a serious condition, while her husband, Sandeep, is stable.
"The attack took place at around 3:30 pm on the main road. Madhavi was brought in a very serious condition as she was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by her father. Her condition is serious. Her husband, Sandeep, who also suffered cuts, has recovered," said Dr. Aditya Vikram, medical superintendent of Neelima Hospital.
As per Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of West Zone, AR Srinivas, the girl was called by her father, Manohara Chary, to meet him at around 3:30 pm earlier in the day. Upon reaching the venue, the girl's father immediately attacked her and her husband by a sharp knife.
"While Sandeep was injured, he is likely to be discharged today. However, Madhavi, who has sustained injuries in her hands and neck, is being treated at the Yashoda hospital and remains critical. But we are hopeful that she will be out danger soon," he added.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SC/ST atrocities act against a man for stabbing his daughter and son-in law. The accused has been arrested.
This is the second such incident in the state of Telangana.
Last week, a Nalgonda native was stabbed to death in an alleged case of honour killing by his wife's father.(ANI)
