Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 5 (ANI): Former BRS MP B Vinod Kumar on Friday said that Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Revanth Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu respectively will hold a meeting on Saturday and sort out issues regarding the bifurcation under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Speaking with the media, B Vinod Kumar said, "There is a meeting tomorrow between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy are sitting together tomorrow to sort out issues regarding bifurcation. As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, under Schedule 10, some properties are to be divided between the two states. There are some more issues and both the CMs will sort out them."
Talking about the provision of an increase in assembly seats, Kumar said, "Under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, there are some provisions regarding the increase of assembly seats in both states, from 175 to 225 in Andhra Pradesh and from 119 to 153 seats in Telangana."
He added further, "For the last 10 years, Telangana made many requests to the Prime Minister to invoke Section 26 in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and increase the seats in both states. But unfortunately, the Government of India under the leadership of Narendra Modi have not sorted out this issue."
Kumar urged the chief ministers of both the states to take the initiative to solve this issue at the earliest.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (2014) was introduced in the Lok Sabha in February 2013 by the then Minister of Home Affairs Sushil Kumar Shinde and provided for the reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh. It carved out Telangana comprising 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana comprises of the following districts of Andhra Pradesh: Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Nizamabad, Warangal, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Khammam and Hyderabad.
According to the Act, after the bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh represented 11 seats in Rajya Sabha, and Telangana represented seven. In Lok Sabha, Andhra Pradesh represented 25 seats and Telangana represented 17 seats.
After the bifurcation, the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly for Andhra Pradesh became 175 and 119 for Telangana. (ANI)
