Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 17 (ANI): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the state government is set to waive off loans up to Rs 1 lakh from July 18.
Revanth Reddy said, "The country should follow the Telangana model in agricultural development. We are waiving off loans up to Rs 1 lakh by tomorrow evening at 4 pm. It will be a memorable day in my life. Rs 7,000 crore will go directly into farmer's accounts. We will waive off up to Rs 1.5 lakh farmer loans by the end of this month and up to Rs 2 lakhs in August and complete the loan waiver process."
He held a meeting with MLAs, MLCs, MPs, and other Congress leaders at Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan, Hyderabad, on Wednesday.
CM Revanth Reddy stated that Rahul Gandhi had promised at the Warangal declaration that farmer loans up to Rs 2 lakhs would be waived off.
"Despite being in power for 10 years, KCR could not waive off even Rs 28,000 crores of farmer loans. We have promised during the parliamentary election campaign that loans will be waived off by August 15. Financial experts also said that loan waiver is difficult and the government will face financial problems. The Gandhi family always keeps its word. It is our responsibility to show that if Rahul Gandhi has given his word, it will be done," CM Revanth Reddy said.
He further said that Telangana should be an example for this country.
He said that the Congress government's aim is to make every farmer debt free.
"We are not fooling the farmers like KCR in the name of the loan waiver. Our government is serious about farmer loan waiver. Organize programs at village, mandal, and constituency levels and let the people know about the good work that we are doing. Loan waiver should be discussed in the national level. No other state in the country has waived off loans of Rs 31,000 crore in a single installment," he further said,
CM Reddy further said that MPs should mention in Parliament that the guarantee given by Rahul Gandhi has been implemented.
"Bike rallies should be organized tomorrow in villages and mandal centers. All MLAs should participate in programs in their constituencies. Within 7 months, our government has spent Rs. 30000 crore on welfare," he added. (ANI)
