New Delhi [India], Oct 13 (ANI): Continuing to exert pressure on the Centre to accept the proposal of a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district, a delegation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Members of Parliament (MPs) met Union Steel Minister Birender Singh on Saturday.
"We met Steel Minister Birender Singh regarding the proposal of setting up the steel plant in Kadapa as part of the Bifurcation Act. We have been demanding for the steel plant for the last four years, and the Minister even admitted that. A task force was also formed to look into the matter. But, it is working at a very slow speed. We have been told that a decision will be taken within four to five days from now," TDP MP YS Chowdary told ANI.
The TDP government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and the Centre have been at loggerheads over many issues. The proposal for the steel plant has been one of the contentious issues.
The Centre had recently ruled out the feasibility of such a proposal, claiming the project to be financially unviable.
On August 1, TDP MPs also met President Ram Nath Kovind here and submitted a memorandum on the issue. (ANI)
