Tamil Nadu: Heavy downpour in Ootty, Kodappam Kalvai canal overflows

Due to heavy rains in the Ooty and Nilgiri, water accumulated in various places causing severe damage.

Ooty (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 19 (ANI): Due to heavy downpours for more than an hour on Monday, the Kodappam Kalvai canal here was flooded which has led to the accumulation of water on the railway bridge near it.
Due to the heavy rains, the traffic going to 10 villages has been also affected due to the collapse of a 15-foot circular wall in the Kunthu Soppai area in Ootty. Traffic near the Kanthal area was also diverted.
Two occupants of a car who were stuck due to the heavy rain were rescued by the fire department after they were found sitting on the top of the vehicle, an official said.
No casualties were reported.
Buses and other vehicles stuck due to the rain were also taken out after the rainwater seeped into the central Government bus station here
Notably, Nilgiris experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning on Monday evening. Due to heavy rains in the Ooty and Nilgiri, water accumulated in various places causing severe damage.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for Tuesday.
As per predictions by IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) can be expected in the area. (ANI)
