Tamil Nadu: 2 trains cancelled due to heavy rainfall in Nilgiris, in Chennai post Cyclone relief operations continue

Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 8 (ANI): In view of the heavy rainfall in the state, 2 trains from Mettupalayam and to Mettupalayam have been cancelled, the railway informed on Thursday.
Train No.06136, from Mettupalayam to Udagamandalam train, scheduled to leave at 07.10 hrs, has been cancelled on December 8.
Train No.06137 scheduled to leave from Udagamandalam to Mettupalayam train, at 14.00 hrs, has been cancelled on December 8.
"Passengers of the cancelled train services will be given a full refund of the ticket fare," the railway said.
Tamil Nadu state is going through the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung. Chennai stands as the worst affected city, leaving many areas waterlogged. Cyclone Michaung made landfall in Tamil Nadu earlier this month, bringing with it heavy rains, strong winds, and subsequent damages to infrastructure and homes, apart from the loss of lives.

There was some relief for citizens as the Chennai Police restored traffic in the most roads in the city with continuous effort and coordination with other departments. Police was also seen in action in Adyar district as they undertook Milk distribution. The Police also pumped out water in VGP Selva Nagar, Velacherry, with co-ordination with other departments.

Meanwhile, amid a flood-like situation in Tamil Nadu's Chennai due to heavy rainfall caused due to Cyclone Michaung, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday assured all possible help from the Central Government, adding that the first instalment of the Central share to the SDRF amounting to Rs 450 crore has been released.
Defence Minister, who assessed the on-ground situation in the cyclone-hit state and took an aerial survey followed by a one-to-one meeting with the Chief Minister and a review meeting with the concerned officials.
"I took an aerial survey followed by a one-to-one meeting with the Chief Minister and a review meeting with the concerned officials. Together we are putting up an effective response to the situation here and hopefully, we will improve it further," Rajnath Singh said.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is distressed by the loss of lives in Tamil Nadu and is personally overseeing the response to the current crisis.
"On behalf of the Prime Minister, let me assure the people of Tamil Nadu that the Government of India is committed to their well-being...PM has directed to Ministry of Home Affairs to release the second installment of Rs 450 Crores to the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Response Fund," he said.
The Tamil Nadu IAS Officers' Association has stepped forward to bolster relief efforts in Chennai after Cyclone Michaung wreaked havoc across the state capital.
The association demonstrated its commitment to supporting the state government in the ongoing relief operations by contributing a day's salary of its members to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, an official release stated. (ANI)
