New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Congress MP KC Venugopal mourned the demise of former Jharkhand CM and founding patron of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Shibu Soren, calling him the 'tallest leader' who fought for tribal rights in the country.
While talking to ANI, Congress MP KC Venugopal said, "My sincere condolences on Shibu Soren ji's sad demise. He was one of the tallest leaders who fought for the tribal rights in the country. His life was dedicated to the upliftment of the poor..."
Earlier, Shibu Soren passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness at the age of 81 in New Delhi.
Jharkhand Chief Minister and his son Hemant Soren confirmed the demise of the leader in a post on X.
"Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today, I am devastated," Hemant Soren said.
Congress MP KC Venugopal also spoke about the the arrest of two nuns from Kerala on July 25 in Chhattisgarh, who were later released after a few days and said that two innocent nuns were put behind bars for a few days.
He said, "The real truth is that they put innocent nuns behind bars for nine days. When our MPs met Home Minister Amit Shah, he told them that this case does not come under the purview of the NIA. But the case was fought in the NIA court, and a NIA public prosecutor argued the case..."
Calling the action of arresting the nuns "too much", he added, "If what the Home Minister said is true, why is the NIA investigating the case?... They were accused of serious crimes like conversion and human trafficking. This is too much..."
Earlier on July 25, two Kerala nuns were arrested on charges of trafficking and religious conversion at Durg Railway Station in Chhattisgarh on July 25.
The case was filed under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act, 1967
They were released from jail after an NIA court granted them bail on Saturday.
Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajeev Chandrasekhar received the two Nuns from Durg Jail, who were arrested in Chhattisgarh.
