Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], October 11 (ANI): BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday raised serious concerns and slammed the Kolkata Police over an alleged incident at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, where a group reportedly threatened to vandalise the idol of Maa Durga if the rituals were not stopped.
In a tweet addressed to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, Adhikari questioned, "What is this Mr. @CPKolkata; Shri Manoj Kumar Verma (IPS)? How did the goons garner the ability to storm into a Durga Puja Pandal under the jurisdiction of the @KolkataPolice and threaten to vandalise the idol of Maa Durga if the rituals aren't stopped?"
The incident allegedly occurred at the New Bengal Sporting Club's Puja pandal located in Garden Reach. Adhikari mentioned that the organisers have filed a complaint at the Garden Reach Police Station and provided video footage of the event.

"How can you allow this to happen?" he continued. "I believe you will take the strictest action possible against the culprits and make them realise that it is Kolkata, not Dhaka."
In a complaint letter, Ashok Sadhukhan, President of the New Bengal Sporting Club, reported that around 50-60 individuals interrupted the puja rituals and threatened to break the idol of Maa Durga. Sadhukhan stated, "Today at 1:13 PM, about 50-60 hooligans (Muslim Mob) came to our puja pandal and disrupted our rituals and threatened our puja pandal, saying that they will break our Maa Durga's idol." He added that the group allegedly used abusive language towards women members.

The club has submitted video footage of the incident to the police and is requesting immediate action, stating, "We are requesting you to take strong action immediately regarding our FIR." (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage.
