Surat businessmen laud GST: Piyush Goyal

Surat (Gujarat) [India], November 8 (ANI): Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has met businessmen in Surat district of Gujarat and claimed that the traders unanimously welcomed the Goods and Services Tax(GST).

"I came to Surat to meet my businessmen brothers, to have an informal discussion on the profit after GST rollout, as well as the procedures which require change. I enjoyed a lot and all the association I met with, be it textile, jewellery or export traders, welcomed GST in a single tone," Goyal said.

The Union Minister further stressed that the implementation of a major reform like GST is bound to bring difficulties but the traders have still accepted it.

"They are assured that GST will improve their business in the best interest of the nation. It is natural that the implementation of this major reform and that too in such a big country will bring difficulties. They made me aware of these problems and their requirements but welcomed the decision," the minister said.

Goyal expressed confidence that all the businessmen of Surat will help the government in the successful implementation of GST. He assured that the GST council will look into the procedures which need modification.

Once known for silk weaving, Surat remains a commercial center for textiles.

The visit to the textile hub came a day after Goyal hailed demonetisation, GST and Crackdown on Shell Companies as Government's three initiatives for the massive cleansing of India's financial system. (ANI)
