Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], April 22 (ANI): The Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh Congress government, accusing it of obstructing development by not cooperating with the Central government on key infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the Ambedkar Samman Sabha event in Shimla, Tamta said that land acquisition hurdles and incomplete Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for major infrastructure initiatives were stalling progress in the hill state.
"The Sukhu government is not cooperating in the land acquisition process for various central government projects worth Rs 73,000 crore in Himachal Pradesh. This includes projects under the four-laning, NHAI, and Setubandhan schemes. As a result, development is being hindered. The central government wants to provide even more assistance, but the state government is creating roadblocks," said Tamta during the event organised in honour of Dr BR Ambedkar.
The Union Minister further alleged that the Congress party had historically disrespected Dr Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
"The Congress has always insulted Dr B R Ambedkar and never allowed him to win an election. Twice, when Ambedkar contested elections, it was Jawaharlal Nehru who stood against him and ensured his defeat. Today, the Congress is roaming around the country with copies of the Constitution, spreading misleading propaganda. The truth is, the Congress tried to erase Babasaheb's legacy and never gave him the respect he truly deserved," Tamta added.
He emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was genuinely following the path shown by Dr. Ambedkar and ensuring rapid development across the country.
"PM Modi is walking in the footsteps of Babasaheb Ambedkar, and development is happening at a rapid pace in every corner of the country," Tamta said.
Accompanying him at the event, Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Dr Rajiv Bindal also took aim at the Congress, echoing Tamta's sentiments.
"The Congress party never truly cared about honouring Dr B R Ambedkar. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Babasaheb is finally receiving the respect he deserves. The Congress has been reduced to merely protecting the Gandhi family," said Bindal.
The event in Shimla served not only as a platform to pay tribute to Dr Ambedkar but also as an opportunity for BJP leaders to criticise the Congress party on both development and historical legacy fronts. The statements highlighted the growing tensions between the Centre and the Himachal Pradesh state government over the implementation of central infrastructure projects. (ANI)
