Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 26 (ANI): On Janmashtami, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar visited the family of the Kolkata rape and murder victim and lit a candle in her memory.
During his visit, he also met with the victims' parents.
He told ANI that he had earlier asked the people of the state to light a candle on Janmashtami in memory of the rape and murder incident victim to bring peace to the departed soul and ensure justice for the deceased.
"I said it from the protesting site yesterday to light a candle in her name, our party workers will do this. I have started this at her home with her family for the peace of the departed soul and justice for the deceased," Majumdar told ANI.
Addressing concerns about the delay in justice in the case, Majumdar said that the CBI is taking time to investigate as the evidence has been tampered with.
"The video that has come up today, shows how the crime scene has been trampled... I don't think any evidence would be there. A case should be registered against those who can be seen in that video for tampering with evidence. CBI is taking time and it has to conduct polygraph tests and all as the evidence has been tampered with," Majumdar told ANI.
The brutal rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor on the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital premises sparked outrage all over the country. The incident shook the entire nation, and since then several protests have been staged demanding justice for the victim.
Earlier, CBI officials conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata.
On August 25, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar in West Bengal who was honoured with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, decided to return the award in protest against the state government's handling of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
