Strict precautions are needed to control COVID-19 in Bengaluru: Basavaraja Bommai

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 12 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraja Bommai on Sunday said that strict precautions are needed to control COVID-19 in Bengaluru.
Bommai said, "Due to some relaxation in first and second lockdown, number of cases rapidly increased in Bengaluru and in some cities in Karnataka, that is why we need to take some strict precaution and have to restrict moment of people to control COVID-19."
He said Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will guide officials about movement in Bengaluru Rural and Urabn.
"To implement the certain rule in lockdown 3 which starts from Tuesday, CM will hold the meeting of senior police officials, then he will guide officials how movements in Bengaluru rural and urban can be restricted," he said.
Meanwhile, R Ashok, cabinet minister and COVID-19 management in charge in Bengaluru said that there will be no movement due to lockdown from Tuesday.
"While imposing the third lockdown, the strict restriction will be followed and vehicle movements from both Bengaluru urban and rural districts will be stopped that's why we request people who wants to go out of Bengaluru and who wants to come to Bengaluru will be allowed only till Monday. From Tuesday, there will be no movement due to lockdown," R Ashok said.
On July 11, a complete lockdown was announced in Bengaluru City and Bengaluru Rural areas from 8 pm on July 14 to 5 am on July 22 in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the city.
"Essentials such as hospitals, groceries, milk, fruit, vegetables, medicines will be available during this period. In addition, medical and postgraduate examinations will happen as already scheduled," the Karnataka CMO informed.
According to the Health Department, Bengaluru urban has reported 1,525 cases on Sunday, taking the total cases to 18,387. There are 14,067 active cases in the area while Bengaluru rural has reported 19 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 364. There are 311 active cases in that area. (ANI)
