Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 27 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday asserted that strict action will be taken against people who have bought many plots of land in the name of their own families that do not fall under the purpose for which these provisions were made and will be vested to the Uttarakhand government.
"In Uttarakhand, there is a law prevalent here, in which outside the municipal corporation area, anyone can buy 250 square meters of land without permission. It has come to our notice that after the enactment of this law, many people have bought many plots of land in the name of their own families, which does not fall under the purpose for which these provisions were made and we are preparing a report of all such lands that have been bought in this manner and strict action will be taken against such people and all such lands that are found will be vested to the state government. It has also come to our notice that the changes made in this law in 2017 have also not brought about positive results. We will also review such provisions," CM Dhami said, addressing a press conference.
He further said that under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a lot of work has been done, adding that the government is working on it rapidly to implement that act.
"We are getting positive results in every field, if we talk about the Uniform Civil Code, a lot of work has been done in that too, we are working on it rapidly to implement that act, to bring that Bill on the ground. Our ideal has been established in the matter of cheating also, due to which till now 17,000 recruitments have been done with transparency without any cheating," he added.
Earlier in January this year, the Uttarakhand government imposed an interim ban on "outsiders" to purchase land for agriculture and horticulture in the state.
"On the instructions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the decision has been taken in the interest of the public and state that till the five-member drafting committee constituted by the Uttarakhand government for a detailed examination of the report submitted by the committee on land laws or till further orders. District magistrates (DMs) will not issue permission to outsiders to purchase land for the purpose of agriculture and horticulture," an official release by the state government said.
The Uttarakhand government on December 22 constituted a five-member drafting committee under the chairmanship of Additional chief secretary (home) Radha Raturi for a detailed examination of the report submitted by the committee on land laws.
In its 80-page report, the committee said that at present, district magistrates allow the purchase of farmland for related purposes, but in several cases, the land is misused by the construction of resorts or personnel bungalows on it. This is making the hill residents landless and is not creating new jobs. (ANI)
