"Strict action will be taken against those responsible": MP Deputy CM Shukla on Chhindwara cough syrup case

Rewa (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 4 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla on Saturday called the children's death in the Chhindwara case due to Coldrif cough syrup "unfortunate" and said that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
Speaking to the media, Shukla mentioned that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav as ordered a complete ban on the syrup across the state.
"In the Chhindwara case, a report was received late last night regarding a Coldrif cough syrup manufacturing company located in Tamil Nadu, whose sample was sent for testing on October 1. The received report revealed that the syrup contains about 48% toxic substances. Following which, a letter was immediately written to the Tamil Nadu government for legal action. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a ban on its supply across the state," Rajendra Shukla said.
He added, "The department has also issued an order for the purpose. Additionally, water samples and other samples have also been sent for examination whose reports are awaited. Overall it is indeed an unfortunate incident and strict action will be taken against those responsible for this."
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the 11 children who died due to consumption of Coldrif cough syrup in Chhindwara district.
According to officials, among the 11 deaths, 10 children were residents of Chhindwara district while one belonged to Pandhurna district (newly formed district from Chhindwara).
The Chief minister stated that the state government would cover the entire medical expenses of children still under treatment.
The CM also took serious cognisance of the deaths of children due to consumption of Coldrif cough syrup and following lab test results, the sale of the syrup has been completely banned across Madhya Pradesh. A statewide campaign is also being conducted to raid and seize stocks of Coldrif syrup, according to the release.
CM Yadav stated that upon learning of the incident, samples of Coldrif syrup were immediately sent for testing. On Saturday morning, lab reports confirmed the samples to be substandard. In response, an immediate ban was imposed on the sale of the syrup across the state.
The Chief Minister further informed that a joint investigation team has been formed at the state level to probe the matter and assured that those found responsible would not be spared under any circumstances. (ANI)
